Hurricanes' Erik Haula and his wife lose their unborn daughter

Carolina Hurricanes forward Erik Haula and his wife Kristen announced earlier today that they have lost their unborn daughter.

“While it’s not what is best for everyone, it personally feels best for us to share,” Kristen Haula wrote on Instagram. “Sometimes there are things in life that happen that are completely out of our control. After feeling amazing my entire pregnancy, with our baby girl giving me very minimal unpleasant pregnancy symptoms... at our ultrasound on Monday our sweet baby girl had lost her strong heartbeat.”

Despite the tragedy, Erik and Kristen are trying to take some positives out of an awful experience.

“While it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel on some days going forward and some may be harder than others to understand why this happened, the complete joy & excitement she has brought to us and those who love her will be with us forever.”

Erik's comments on Instagram are truly heartbreaking.

“Our baby girl gone way too soon. Mommy & Daddy will always love you and we cannot wait to hold you one day in heaven."

Heartbreaking. There are no words, really...

Haula, who arrived in Carolina following an offseason trade from the Vegas Golden Knights, has exploded offensively in his new home. He's put up 11 goals and 17 points in 21 games with the Hurricanes this season.
