The Score reports that Carolina Hurricanes’ general manager and executive vice president Ron Francis has been signed to a contract extension.

Francis, a Hall of Fame legend who spent 16 years playing for Hartford/Carolina, will see his 11 years in management be extended to 13 as his new contract is set to expire during the 2018-2019 season.

While the Hurricanes have not had any significant success since winning the Stanley Cup in 2006, the organization is confident that it’s headed in the right direction:

“Ron has rebuilt our organization the right way, stocking our team and system with young players who will help this franchise compete for the Stanley Cup year in and year out,” team owner Peter Karmanos said.
