ICYMI: Blue Jackets captain Foligno leaves team

In case you missed it, Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno missed last night’s game against the Ottawa Senators and has officially taken a leave of absence from the team.

The team made the announcement yesterday afternoon that Foligno will be away from the team while his daughter Milana recovers from a serious surgery.

NEWS: #CBJ captain Nick Foligno will miss Monday’s game vs. Ottawa and be away from the team as his daughter, Milana, will undergo a scheduled surgery in Boston. He will return to the team as soon as possible.

The day before Foligno delivered the message to his teammates:

An emotional scene at the end of #CBJ practice today when Nick Foligno addressed teammates, told them he was stepping away from the team for Milana’s surgery. When he finished speaking, players tapped the ice with their sticks, then engulfed Foligno in a massive 25-person hug.

UDATE: According to Blue Jackets head coach John Torotrella, Milana’s surgery went according to plan and the Blue Jackets captain is with her for at least the next two days:

#CBJ coach John Tortorella said he spoke with captain Nick Foligno from Boston just after the game. Milana’s surgery went according to plan and she is recovering today/tonight. Foligno will sleep in her room tonight, he told Tortorella.
