It’s about time. Can the Blues still salvage this season?

Late last night the St. Louis Blues FINALLY relived coach Mike Yeo of his head coaching duties. Taking over for Yeo, at least in the interim, is assistant coach Craig Berube.

Of course, the Blues have been linked to former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville who was relieved of his job with the Blues’ bitter rival earlier this month. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong and new interim head coach Berube will hold a press conference tomorrow morning at 10am local time. It’s not expected that the team will announce Quenneville as their next head coach at the time, but you can bet that Armstrong and Quenneville are at least engaged in negotiations.

As for Yeo, The 45 year old coach compiled a 73-49-11 record for a .545 winning percentage in St. Louis, a marked improvement over his five year record with the Minnesota Wild in which he managed just a .393 winning percentage. Still, with the Blues sitting at the bottom of the Centra Division standings and hot on the heels of a 2-0 shutout loss to the NHL worst Los Angeles Kings, it was clear that change was coming in St. Louis. It remains to be seen what his next move is, but you can bet that somewhere former Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock is smiling to himself juuuuuust a little bit.

More to come on the fallout of this move and other potential changes coming in St. Louis.
