*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
*NEW YORK/TORONTO (Nov. 20, 2019)* – The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that forward *Bobby Ryan*of the Ottawa Senators will be away from the team while taking part in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

There will be no further comment.

At this point all we can do is speculate as to the reasons for Ryan’s leave from the team, but… well that seems insensitive, so we won’t even go there.

It’s not exactly a secret though that Ryan has had a trying life on and off the ice. For those who don’t know, Bobby’s childhood was effectively ended when he was just 10 years old. His father, Bob Stevenson, assaulted his mother Melody on several occasions, forcing Melody and Bobby to flee from an abusive situation.

After a particularly horrible assault, Melody was hospitalized while Bob was arrested and charged with attempted murder. When Bob was released on $75,000 bail, he and Melody agreed to make things work for their son and they skipped town. Once that decision was made, the Stevensons, now going under the aliases of the Ryans, embarked on a journey that saw them avoid the police and FBI for years.

Suffice it to say, Bobby Ryan’s story is really like a movie come to life. Do yourself a favour and check out Sportsnet’s incredible telling of his tale here:
