I case you missed it last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames hooked up on a late night trade with two former top prospects, including a former first round pick, on the move.

Heading to Toronto in the deal is former 28th overall selection from the 2013 NHL Entry Draft Morgan Klimchuck in exchange for AHL defenseman Andrew Nielsen.

Check it out:

The 23 year old Klimchuk has appeared in 16 games with the Stockton Heat (AHL) during the 2018-19 season and recorded three goals and five assists. He has appeared in one career NHL game, with Calgary, playing 7:25 in his NHL debut on February 19 vs. Boston. In 204 career AHL games, all with the Heat franchise, Klimchuk has registered 100 points (44 goals, 56 assists).

As for Nielsen, the former 3rd round pick (65th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft  has played 152 games in the AHL for the Toronto Marlies scoring 20 goals and adding 50 assists for 70 points and 237 penalty minutes. The 2018 Calder Cup Champion has played in eight games this season notching three assists.

Both players are expected to compete at the AHL level for their new clubs and potentially earn themselves a shot at the NHL with this fresh start.
