In case you missed it: Feb 26th blockbuster deal #2 explained.

That was a big one.

The second major transaction yesterday concerned one of the most sought after player on the market this year, Martin Hanzal

Rumors were going wild ( pun intended ) about him and we finally learned he was going Minnesota's way late yesterday evening, in a major trade conjointly ran by the Coyotes and the Wild

The deal is as follow :

Minnesota gets Forward Martin Hanzal, Forward Ryan White and a 2017 fourth round pick

Arizona gets a 2017 first round pick, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2019 conditional pick. The conditions are that if Minnesota wins a round in the playoff, Arizona gets a third rounder. If the Wild win a second round in the playoff, the conditional becomes a second rounder. Arizona will retain 50% of Hanzal salary for the remaining of the season.

The deal makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Wild is pushing hard for a deep playoff round this year and they put their proverbial money where their mouth is. With Hanzal, they acquire a strong and responsible center built for playoff hockey. The price is high honestly, but you don't rent a Lamborghini on the cheap either.

Arizona gets a ton of quality picks in return. The 2017 draft is not the most exciting, but 2018 seems to be very promising. John Chayka, which has the reputation of being a mad math wizard, surely expect to rebuild the team partly on these picks.

Speaking of Chayka, he mentioned how hard selling at the deadline was. Shane Doan was visibly unhappy about the trade and it might have lasting effects in the locker room. Hockey is a game of money and numbers more than ever, but players have their feelings too.
