Minnesota Wild left winger Zach Parise exited the first period of his team’s 5-4 OT loss to the Washington Capitals last night after taking a nasty high stick to the face from Capitals pugilist Tom Wilson. While it initially appeared that Parise took the blade of Wilson’s stick in the eye, Wild head coach BruceBoudreau confirmed that Parise’s eye is fine but he’ll need to assessed by doctors before the extent of his injury is fully known.

And ff a stick to the face wasn’t bad enough, Capitals centerman Jay Beagle ran through Parise’s head with an accidental hip check as the Wild assistant captain fell to the ice. He went down hard and appeared to hit his head on the ice. He left the game and didn’t return.

Wilson was given a double minor for high-sticking on the play, but the real price to pay for clipping Parise came when he was forced to drop the gloves with 6’2”, 240 lb Chris StewartStewart mopped the floor with Wilson who was left a bloody mess as a result of the one-sided scrap.

As for Parise, it’s not clear when he’ll be back in the lineup, but the team cannot afford to lose him after losing four straight and going 1-7-2 in their last ten games.
