As the Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to regroup and recuperate from last night’s heart-breaking 2-1 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators, it appears as though one of their key defensemen may be eyeing a return to the lineup.

Officially, Trevor Daley has been out of the Pens lineup since game 5 of the Washington Capitals series with a lower-body injury. The exact nature of the injury hasn’t been reported, but it does however appear that Daley will be back on the blue line sooner rather than later. The veteran defender skated on his own today and could return for game 3 of the Easter Conference finals, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

“There might be some help for that depleted blue line on Pittsburgh,” Kypreos said. “It’s believed his lower-body injury has rebounded a little better in the last week and he is possible to reappear for Game 3.”

This has to be seen as great news for Penguins fans. With both Daley and number one defenseman Kris Letang out of the team’s lineup, they’ve had to rely heavily on players like Ian Cole and Ron Hainsey. The return of Daley will do wonders for coach Mike Sullivan’s defense corps.
