Injury Report: Flyers dominant prospect expected to be out for the rest of the season.

Philadelphia Flyer blue chip prospect German Rubtsov will sit for the remainder of the season with what’s believed to be a fractured wrist or a hand injury.

Rubtsov is a 6’2”, 190 lb centre who was selected 22nd overall by the Flyers in this past summer’s NHL Entry Draft. The native of Chekhov, Russia spurned the KHL and left Vityaz Podolsk early in the new year for the QMJHL’s Chicoutimi Sagueneens. In just 16 games with Chicoutimi Rubtsov has been electric, scoring 9 goals and adding 13 assists for 22 points.

It’s a unfortunate turn of events for Rubtsov as he signed a three year entry-level contract with the Flyers in March. It was hoped that Rubtsov could return to help Chicoutimi during their QMJHL playoff run, but the injury is simply too severe and requires too much rehabilitation for the forward to return before the end of the season. As such, Flyers fans will have to wait until next season to get a glimpse of the high-scoring 18 year old.
