Injury Report: Matthews provides update for reporters

Despite being without the services of superstar center Auston Matthews, the beat rolls on for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The winners of four straight take on the New Jersey Devils tomorrow at Air Canada Centre, but it looks like they’ll be without Matthews for at least another game.

Auston Matthews on his health: "For [the injury] to not fully recover and then tweak it again, you’re back to square one. We’ve been pretty cautious. Been feeling better day by day, that’s all you can really ask for."

So… reading between the lines, don’t expect Matthews tomorrow night against the Devils. Neither Matthews, the Leafs or head coach Mike Babcock have given a definitive date for the player’s return but Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada against the Montreal Canadiens seems like the perfect setting doesn’t it?

Sit tight, Leafs fans.
