Don’t look now, but the Detroit Red Wings currently sit in fourth overall across the National Hockey League, and that is no small feat to accomplish seven games into the 2016-2017 regular season schedule. Last night, they took to the Joe Louis Arena and defeated the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 4-2, thus improving their record to 5-2-0 and winning their fifth consecutive game.

They’ve managed to do all of this without the help of their veterans Niklas Kronwall, who’s been sidelined with a knee injury for months, and Justin Abdelakder, who is sidelined due to a mysterious “lower-body injury”.

Thankfully for Red Wings fans, both players took to the ice this morning to skate with the rest of their teammates, which could potentially indicate that they are nearing a return to game action.

We should receive confirmation regarding Abdelkader later today from head coach Jeff Blashill, who said yesterday that the veteran forward should be ready for tomorrow night’s matchup against the St. Louis Blues.
