Right now, we're looking more at a long-term injury than anything.

Promising prospect Brendan Lemieux is probably done for the season, per Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Head coach Pascal Vincent of the Manitoba Moose, the Winnipeg Jet’s AHL team, announced on Friday March 17 that power forward Brendan Lemieux was out of the lineup with a lower body injury.

Lemieux was injured in the second period of Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Marlies, when he collided with Colin Greening. The exact details have not yet been released, but the coach of the Manitoba Moose isn’t feeling to optimistic about Lemieux returning before the end of the season.

Brendan Lemieux is the epitome of a power forward. At 6’ and 210 lbs, he was described by his coach as major threat in front of the net who had been “consistently improving” throughout his first full season in the AHL.

The farm system is there to help players transition from minor league to NHL calibure status, and this is a process that takes time. Despite the strides, Brendan Lemieux has made this season, he may not be ready for his NHL debut with the Jets quite yet.

What’s holding the aspiring NHLer back at this point was identified as consistency and control by his coach. “We know what he’s capable of, it’s just bringing all the pieces of the puzzle together, controlling his emotions in the game” Pascal Vincent said of the 21-year-old left-handed shot.

It’s a shame that Brendan Lemieux’s first AHL season could be over at 61 games, 12 goals  seven assists. There’s a lot of potential and a lot to look forward to in Manitoba if Lemieux keeps up his progress in the coming season.
