Chicago Blackhawks top center Jonathan Toews took a hard shot to the leg in the team’s final pre-season match against the Boston Bruins.

He left the game following the injury, but would return for a few shifts. He proved incapable to finish the game and sat for the rest of it.

It’s unclear as of yet if this is injury is serious; head coach Joel Queneville did not have a report from the team’s doctors. He remains optimistic that he won’t be out long.

The captain has posted over 50 points in four consecutive seasons, with two of those seasons nearly eclipsing the 70-point mark. No one needs a reminder of how important Toews’ contributions are to this team, both on and off the scoresheet.

The Blackhawks open up their season October 5th against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
