After dealing with a nagging knee injury throughout the 2015-2016 season, Niklas Kronwall had to unfortunately skip out on the World Cup of Hockey. He would have represented Team Sweden and his veteran presence would have surely been a welcomed addition to a club that had a less-than-stellar outing.

His 26 points in 64 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season are his lowest since the 2009-2010 season, but fans should breathe a collective sigh of relief in knowing that his rehabilitation is going very well.

The 36-year-old skated this morning with his teammates for the first time, but will not participate in any preseason games. He’s expected to be in the lineup for the season opener on Thursday, October 13th when the Red Wings visit the Tampa Bay Lightning.
