There's something strange going in Philadelphia and although the Flyers are being very quiet about it, Flyers' insider Tim Panaccio did some digging today and has revealed some interesting bits of information.

The whole thing stems from Steve Mason taking a second consecutive maintenance day, something he just does not do, Mason is widely viewed as a creature of habit who likes to maintain a certain routine in his preparation, and many have started to speculate as to why he's needed the time off. When Panaccio pressed head coach Hakstol for more information he hit a dead end.

Hakstol got testy with me when I insisted Mason is a creature of habit who NEVER takes 2 days off in a row. Mason would not talk today

It becomes especially strange when you consider that Michal Neuvirth looked like he was hurting as he skated off the ice after the Flyers loss to the Bruins on Monday night, and despite Hakstol's insistence that this was an optional day for Mason, Neuvirth seemed to indicate the opposite was true.

Hakstol kept insisting Mason is fine and it was optional. I said to Neuvirth, 'looks like you have to play tomorrow' and he said 'yes.'"

No one knows what's going on just yet, but we will continue to monitor this strange development.
