Injury Update: Concerning news on Pens’ Murray
Keystone Press

Lost in all the preview and analysis of the upcoming second round playoff series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals is the fact that the Penguins are still without the services of their number one netminder.

With Marc-Andre Fleury providing the Pens with some outstanding goaltending in round one versus the Columbus Blue Jackets, some fans have forgotten that Matt Murray was supposed to be the team’s rock in goal. While Fleury has been great, you have to imagine that the team would feel more comfortable with two healthy goaltenders for their second round matchup. That’s why this morning’s news from head coach Mike Sullivan has many fans concerned.

According to Sullivan, Murray hasn’t even skated on his own, let alone with the team, since suffering the injury prior to game 1 against the Blue Jackets. Obviously, there’s no timetable for his return at this point, so the Penguins will have to pin their hopes on Fleury…the man nobody expected to even be in Pittsburgh for the playoffs.
