Injury Update: Did Markstrom suffer a setback?
Keystone Press

When Vancouver Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom went down with an injury following the team’s annual Canucks Skills Competition, it was just another indication to Canucks fans that their team is cursed. Markstrom suffered a freak knee injury during the fan event and hasn’t seen the ice since.

The Canucks have been tight lipped on Markstrom’s status since the injury occurred, leading to speculation that the injury may be worse than originally reported. However, Markstrom squelched those rumours today by snapping a photo of himself on the ice training in Sweden.

You can breathe a sigh of relief now Canucks fans. The 27 year-old Markstrom is expected to take over the starting role in Vancouver next season after two years of tutelage under veteran Ryan Miller. It’s unclear whether the Canucks will bring back Miller for another stint, sign another veteran to back up Markstrom or give youngster Thatcher Demko a taste of the NHL, but one thing’s for sure: the crease will be Markstrom’s to lose in Vancouver next season.
