Injury Update: Things even worse for Bergeron than first feared
Zuma Press

In case you missed it, Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron left the ice Friday night after taking a hit from Dallas Stars forward Radek Faksa. While tangled up and chasing for an loose puck along the boards, Faksa drove right through Bergeron while Bergeron lost his balance. The end result was Bergeron effectively getting his head smashed between Faksa and the side boards.

Check it out:

Ouch… that’s ugly. Doubly so considering Bergeron’s injury history and the struggles that he has had with post concussion syndrome. Any way you look at it, this is NOT good for Bergeron the Bruins.

Now for the good news / bad news scenario. The good news? Bergeron did NOT suffer a concussion or a head injury. The bad news? He'll be out "for an extended period of time" according to Kathryn Tappen of NBC Sports:

Hearing the Bruins will be without top line center and 4x Selke Trophy winner Patrice Bergeron for “an extended period of time”... w/ upper body injury.
The latest, and most significant, on a list of injuries for the B’s.

TSN analyst Darren Dreger, who broke the news behind the Oilers' firing of head coach Todd McLellan earlier today, confirmed that it is indeed Bergeron's shoulder that is injury.

Not head related. Suspected shoulder and upwards of 4 weeks...according to sources. Nice work

UPDATE: John Shannon of Sportsnet is now reporting Bergeron will be out at LEAST 4 weeks with a rib injury.

Bruins announce Patrice Bergeron sustained a rib/sternoclavicular injury on November 16 in Dallas...out at least 4 weeks. Will be re-evaluated at that point.

Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy has ruled Bergeron out for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings and spoke to the media regarding his assistant captain yesterday.

Not good… not good at all. This is a devastating loss for a team that’s already missing key contributors like Zdeno Chara, Charlie McAvoy and others.
