A very interesting tidbit of information today from ESPN insider Pierre LeBrun.

In a recent article for ESPN,m LeBrun stated his belief that highly talented defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk will not be re-signing with the St. Louis Blues prior to the end of the season, or ever for that matter.

From Lebrun:

I don’t see him re-signing. But the Blues are still a contender. Barring a trade where the Blues get a player in return who would have as much impact on this season as Shattenkirk, I think the Blues are comfortable allowing him to play out his deal, hopefully help the team win a Cup, and then if he walks July 1, that’s cap space that can be used elsewhere.

As you can see from his comments, LeBrun believes that the Blues will not trade him prior to the deadline should they remain in contention for the Stanley Cup, a move that would see Shattenkirk walk at the end of the season.

While it's far too early to predict where he could end up, a defenseman of his skill level, and at his age, rarely become available as free agents, and that could mean a frenzy come free agency.
