According to a report from The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Buffalo Sabres are attempting to swing a deal that would bring them some help on the blue line. Sabres rookie GM Jason Botterill acquired defensemen Nathan Beaulieu and Marco Scandella this past offseason, but with regulars Zach Bogosian, Justin Falk and Josh Gorges all out of the lineup due to injury, and with the club getting off to an awful start, the team could make a desperation move.

The name circulating in trade rumors? Former 2nd overall pick Sam Reinhart. According to Pagnotta:

While the Sabres have made him available, they are not trying to ship him out of town for the sake of doing so. It's believed the Sabres would be willing to package Reinhart in a larger move for an "impact player," regardless of position, an Eastern Conference source told TFP.

Other rumor reports have speculated that Reinhart could be headed to the rebuilding Vancouver Canucks. Would defensemen Chris Tanev or Ben Hutton provide a solution to the Sabres’ blue line woes? Or, might the Sabres look for a bigger fish? While Reinhart hasn’t gotten off to the fastest start in his NHL career, he’s still just 21-years-old and has a ton of potential. Expect the return to be very high if he does indeed get moved.
