Insider Report: Sharks already looking to offload talent

While appearing on Montreal’s TSN 690 radio station this morning, TSN analyst and NHL insider Darren Dreger offered up a juicy rumor regarding the San Jose Sharks.

Prior to the Pittsburgh Penguins acquiring center Riley Sheahan from the Detroit Red Wings, Pens GM Jim Rutherford had been in negotiations with the Sharks to acquire 23-year-old center Chris Tierney.

According to Dreger:

“Jim Rutherford of the Pittsburgh Penguins had a need, he needed a third-line center. He identified a few players that could fill that void, including Galchenyuk, who he had some interest in. But he looked at Tierney from the San Jose Sharks and acquired Riley Sheahan from the Detroit Red Wings.”

Interesting. The Galchenyuk rumor has been well documented and makes total sense given the direction of the Montreal Canadiens so far this season. But the fact that Sharks GM Doug Wilson is already surveying the trade market has to be of concern to Sharks fans. The team has sputtered to a 4-4 start, but might a trade jump start the team’s on-ice performance? Stay tuned, things could get interesting in the Bay Area.
