Insider reports CRAZY numbers for Draisaitl's next contract

It is no secret that the Peter Chiarelli and the Oilers will have heartbreaking choices to make this summer. They have to find a trade destination for Jordan Eberle and sign Leon Draisaitl, among other things.

Sportsnet's renowned NHL insider Elliott Friedman came forward with numbers about the 21-year-old's possible new contract. Since his agent is Mike Liut, who also represents St. Louis Blues' star Vladimir Tarasenko, Friedman wonders if "Liut would go for the same ballpark with Draisaitl." This means an eight-year, $60-million contract right out of entry-level.

Friedman goes on with his analysis of the situation:

"Draisaitl did not accumulate the same totals [as Tarasenko] over his first three years, but did outpoint the St. Louis scorer in Year Three and had a marvellous playoffs. If I’m the Oilers, I’m going for term, because if Draisaitl keeps this up, the number will only go higher."

Draisaitl was selected third overall in the 2014 NHL draft. He recorded 29 goals and 48 assists for 77 points in 82 games last season with the Oilers.
