Earlier in the summer after the speculation surrounding a number of trades had died down, St.Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong took the opportunity to downplay one of the hottest rumors of the summer, a potential trade involving defenseman Shattenkirk.

"I think the Kevin Shattenkirk thing grew on a life of its own at the draft," Armstrong said as per NHL.com. "What I've said internally here is that we're excited to have Kevin Shattenkirk as a part of our team. In the NHL now, you see all the players hitting free agency and moving to [different] teams."

However it seems Doug Armstrong may not have been entirely truthful in that regard, and now one of the best insiders in the business is claiming that Shattenkirk is still very much in play.

TSN insider Darren Dreger was a guest this morning on TSN's 1040 radio and revealed his belief that the Shattenkirk situation isn't resolved, although he admitted he didn't have any idea where he would land at this point.

"I still feel like Shattenkirk is trade target," said Dreger as per Nichols on Hockey before adding "but don't know there's anything I'd consider to be a front-burner scenario."

There have been rumors of both Montreal and Toronto being involved, both teams who were also rumored to be interested in veteran defenseman Kris Russell, although there's been nothing solid on this front.
