Goalies are a different breed, there’s no doubt about it. Whether they’re conducting bizarre gameday rituals or simply having a friendly chat with their goalposts, we’ve all come to appreciate the netminders who embrace their weirdness and eccentricities. Maybe that’s why it was so jarring to hear Minnesota Wild goaltender talk openly about the “curse” of the goaltender.

“You think about every goal you let in 100 times over,” said the 30 year-old native of Regina, Saskatchewan. “There’ll be a night in July I’ll be sitting out on the deck and start thinking about game 38, and ‘I shouldn’t have done that.’ That’s the life.” There’s no doubt that Dubnyk has faced some hard luck in his career, but perhaps he’s being a bit tough on himself?

The important thing for Dubnyk is that he uses his failures are a way to learn and improve, and he seems to also subscribe to that line of thought, concluding with, “I’ll review all that and understand what went well and why this year and make sure that I continue to prepare that way for next year.”

Goalies, eh? They’re weird…
