Have his antics become a distraction?

For the third straight day the Nashville Predators have kept superstar defenseman PK Subban from meeting with the media during the Stanley Cup Final. Earlier in the series, of course, Subban made headlines by sparking a rivalry with fellow superstar Sidney Crosby and claiming that the latter criticized his “bad-breath” One Listerine joke turned into a full-fledged Internet phenomenon and now Subban has apparently been muzzled.

While it’s unlikely the NHL has much to the team’s decision to keep Subban away from reporters, that hasn’t stopped fans on social media from calling out the league for its inability to market one of its biggest stars. Meanwhile, reporters in Nashville will have to dig a little deeper to find a juicy quote or a bit of insider information. The affable and media savvy Subban is always one to offer up a soundbite or compelling story, but with him in the shadows for now scribes in Nashville will have to really earn their pay.

One thing’s clear, if the Preds stand a chance in coming back from 3-2 against the Pens, they’ll need Subban at the top of his game. If the team comes out with a win tonight in which the blue liner performs well, they’ll be praised for the decision. Win or loss however, you can bet your bottom dollar that Subban will field a question or two following tonight’s game.
