The Pittsburgh Penguins were holding a 90’s Theme night on Tuesday, as collections of team jerseys and arcade games from the 1990s were among the many special displays at the contest.

While the Florida Panthers were their opponent that night, the Columbus Blue Jackets tried to get in the mix - attempting to throw the Pens off their game on social media.

During the second intermission of the game, as the Pens and Panthers were tied 2-2 after 40 minutes of play, the Penguins asked fans on Twitter which 90’s jersey was their favourite. The Jackets answered, of course, taking a stab at their Metropolitan rival.

The thing is Jackets, you might have to wait until you’re in the playoff picture to insult the Penguins. Pittsburgh currently sits in the first Wild Card spot in the Easter Conference, while the Jackets are trailing behind, on the outside looking in. Columbus has lost four games since making many major acquisitions at the trade deadline - saying they were loading up to be a threat in the postseason.

We all love a good insult and a great rivalry, but the Jackets should have picked a better time to take a shot at the Penguins.

The two teams will be facing one another in back to back games on Thursday and Saturday, so the Jackets might have wanted to get the competition going early...
