Jagr to the Flames?
Keystone Press

Blogger Ari Yanover of the Nation network blog Flames Nation makes a compelling case for the Calgary Flames to pursue veteran free-agent and future Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr in his latest article.

When rumors leaked earlier this week that the Flames had interest in the 44 year-old living legend, Flames fans were mostly dismissive of the news. And while nothing appears to be imminent, Yanover takes the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” approach and attempts to make the case for Jagr on the Flames in 2017-18.

Yanover argues that the makeup of the Flames’ roster is surprisingly similar to the one Jagr had success with in Florida. With the Panthers, Jagr spent most of his time skating alongside two burgeoning superstars in Alexander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. In Calgary, he’d play alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. Apples to apples, right?

Yanover also points to a possible connection with fellow Czech native Michael Frolik. In fact, both players are from the same hometown, Kladno, and Frolik grew up idolizing Jagr to the point where he wears number 67 in honor of his childhood hero.
