The Toronto Maple Leafs might be on their way to win the second game of the qualifying series against the Columbus Blue Jackets, however, they could have lost a huge piece of their roster.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin slid head-first into a knee and fell to the ice with a yelp. He was down on the ice for a while, being attended to by trainer Paul Ayotte. He remained down for a long time as he couldn't get up right after the collision. The Leafs were leading 2-0, and the Jackets had just pulled Joonas Korpisalo from their net to attempt to tie the contest.

After the medical staff checked Muzzin's extremities and movement, they made the decision to put him on a stretcher to take him out safely of the rink.

You were able to notice the emptiness, concern and complete silence of the rink as players put a knee down to send their best thoughts out to Muzzin. They clapped and banged their sticks as he exited the ice.

Here is how Muzzin was injured on the play and how he was taken off the ice:

Muzzin was communicating with the medical staff and moving his legs. We surely hope this exit on a stretcher was precautionary and that Muzzin will be healthy soon. The veteran blue liner is so important to the Leafs' lineup with his shutdown defense, his leadership and playoff experience.

There was a minute left to the game. Players went out to skate and get their focus back.

A huge loss for the Leafs and a scary incident for the whole hockey fanbase out there.

The Leafs scored an empty-netter to win 3-0. Without Muzzin with them on the ice... Muzzin was taken to a local hospital here in Toronto after being stretchered off, where he is responsive, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe.
