Nothing but a fraud?

A recent crusade from National Hockey League veteran Dan Carcillo has just taken on a very different tone thanks to comments from another former National Hockey League player.

For those who have missed it Carcillo, who has likely been motivated by his desire to promote an upcoming book, recently embarked on a crusade against hazing and bullying in the sports world when he shared his story online detailing some of the horrific abuse he had suffered during his time as a player in junior hockey. Anyone who read Carcillo's account of what transpired while he was in junior was immediately mortified about what was being allowed to happen to these young men behind closed doors and it's easy to see why Carcillo not only garnered a great deal of sympathy, but also a great deal of media attention as well.

Since his story broke Carcillo has made numerous media appearances and although he initially opted not to name any of the people directly involved in these incidents of hazing he has gone on to attach some names to the abuse he alleges he suffered. Carcillo's accounts have been made all the more credible by the fact that former teammates of his, as well as other players who suffered similar experiences on different teams, have come out and echoed the statements he has made regarding the hazing culture in junior hockey.

One former player however is not buying it and took to social media in an effort to expose what he claims is hypocrisy on the part of the former NHL goon. Former Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jeff O'Neil has now come out and responded to what he feels were attacks on his family from Carcillo and has outright labeled him a fraud in the process.

"Dan Carcillo has attacked me personally recently on a podcast with Rob Pizzo," wrote O'Neil. "He is a fraud. Trust me as many stories as he claims he has, there’s many more about him. DO NOT talk about my family name in that."

I must admit there is a great deal of hypocrisy here from a guy like Carcillo taking about receiving abuse when he made a career out of taking liberties with the health of opposing players on the ice. Additionally if O'Neil's claims that Carcillo also has some hazing skeletons in his closet prove to be true this does put his attempts to claim victim status in an entirely new and rather disgusting light.

At this time these are just accusations from O'Neil and there's no way of proving whether or not he's actually telling the truth, but we will undoubtedly here more about this in the next several days.
