Former National Hockey League star turned NHL analyst Jeremy Roenick landed himself in some hot water to end 2019 when he made controversial comments regarding some of his colleagues at NBC Sports. Specifically it was the comments regarding two people that Roenick is reportedly friendly with, Kathryn Tappen and fellow NBC hockey analyst Patrick Sharp, that resulted in Roenick being suspended from the broadcast.

“I play it off like we’re all going to bed together every night, the three of us,” said Roenick of Tappen and his wife on the Spittin Chiclets podcast. “If it really came to fruition, that would really be good. But it’s never going to happen.”

“He is so beautiful, I’d have to think about it if he asked me,” Roenick said of former NHLer Patrick Sharp. “I wouldn’t say no right away.”

You can see why in today's current climate that these comments would run some people the wrong way, and NBC acted quickly at the time. The NHL's broadcast partner issued a strongly worded statement condemning the comments made by Roenick, one that immediately put an end to his appearances on the broadcast.

"Jeremy Roenick has been suspended indefinitely without pay for making inappropriate comments about his co-workers," read the statement released by NBC Sports. "We will have no further comment at this time."

Unsurprisingly Roenick himself has not had a great deal to say on the topic since he was suspended at NBC, but on Saturday he broke his silence and addressed the elephant in the room via a video published on social media.

From the video:

Hi everybody, I want to take this opportunity to apologize to NBC Sports, Katheryn Patrick, Anson, for some insentive comments I made on a recent podcast. I never meant to offend anyone and I definitely went too far and for that I deeply regret. I called everybody involved and I am so thankful for their loving and gracious acceptance of my apology, and that includes my family and friends. I've always tried to act professional, I've always tried to entertain, this time I went too far. I will make sure in the future that I am mindful of peoples feelings, the sensitivities of my coworkers and of all you, my loving fans. I hope to see you on the air soon and I hope you accept my apologies.
