Jeremy Roenick slams the Maple Leafs on Monday.

Roenick clearly not a fan of this team.

It seems that former National Hockey League star Jeremy Roenick is not a fan of the current iteration of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The very opinionated and often controversial Roenick was a guest on TSN's 1050 radio in Toronto on Monday when he was a guest of Michael Landsberg's. Unsurprisingly the topic of the Toronto Maple Leafs quickly came up and unfortunately for the Leafs Jeremy Roenick did not have very many nice things to say about their squad at all.

In fact Roenick focused solely on the negative when he spoke of what he feels in the perceived attitude of the players on the roster, saying the Leafs' attitude was both “awful” and “atrocious”. It is a damning condemnation of the Leafs although given Roenick's love of hyperbolic statements I would still take it with a bit of a grain of salt, at least as far as those two specific comments were concerned.

That being said there is no doubt that the Maple Leafs have been in a bit of a funk as of late with their blue line looking considerably more shallow with the absence of defenseman Jake Gardiner and on top of that their goaltending has not looked solid as of late either. So although Roenick's comments may have been a bit over the top, there are genuine concerns about this roster and that was made clear when they discussed the future for the Leafs in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Both Roenick and Landsberg agreed when they discussed what they felt would transpire in the first round of the playoffs. Neither Landsberg nor Roenick could make a case for how the Leafs would be able to get past the Bruins with the current state of their blue line and that was even including the return of Travis Dermott to the line up. Roenick went a full step further than Landsberg did however when he stated plainly that the Leafs will not make it past Boston and would instead be eliminated in the very first round yet again.

This time there didn't seem to be much hyperbole involved on the part of Roenick, it simply seems like he genuinely believes the Leafs can not compete with the Bruins in a 7 game series.
