Alhough we tend to report on huge deals more intensively than small contracts, all the players in a NHL organization are important. Sure, having Patrik Laine scoring amazing goals in the NHL will help win the Cup and sell tickets, but having a healthy roster for the AHL team is equaly important. Without the minor league team, rookies and prospects can't develop properly.
This is exactly why the Jets signed a new deal with defenseman Cameron Schilling.
The 6'2'', 196lbs defenseman has played a total of 6 games in the NHL with the Capitals, but close to 400 in the AHL. He's a gritty and responsible defenseman that lacks a bit in mobility but still offers stability in a lineup. He will certainly help the Moose attain a higher level of hockey in the future.
Good luck in Manitoba and Winnipeg, sir!
