The National Hockey League is cracking down both on stick infractions and faceoff violations and the Winnipeg Jets decided to do something about it.

The Jets have chosen to bring in former NHL referee Paul Devorski to training camp to help the club curb penalties.

Jets coach Paul Maurice reached out to the NHL to help them fix their issues with too many penalties. Devorki should be on the ice with the team during battle drills to teach the Jets on how they can avoid taking penalties. Last year, the Jets ended the season with 835 penalty minutes and had the fifth-worst penalty kill in the NHL.

In their first two preseason games, the Jets have taken 12 penalties.
