Last night, none other than Sean Avery dropped a bomb as he claimed that the Toronto Maple Leafs had traded forward Nazem Kadri  to the Winnipeg Jets for defenseman Jacob Trouba.

“Alright Leafs Nation,” Avery said via Instagram story late last night. “Breaking news. Per my sources in Toronto, Nazem Kadri has been traded for Jacob Trouba. That is confirmed. I’m telling you first, per my sources in Toronto.

“Go Blues.”

However, because of his reputation across the NHL, it became hard to believe the controversial former player despite the facts that he does have many connections in the league that could have informed him on this pending trade. The fact that he mispronounced both Kadri and Trouba’s names did not help his credibility…

On top of that, the trade proposal does make sense. It has been mentioned many times that Kadri could be on his way out of Toronto seeing that he has been a lightning rod for criticism this postseason as many Leafs fans feel his suspension in round one against the Boston Bruins was ultimately the team’s downfall. It’s the second postseason in a row in which Kadri has lost his cool and hurt his team, so you can’t blame Leafs fans for piling on the 28 year old centre.

As for Trouba, he has long been rumoured to want out of Winnipeg, and is a restricted free agent that won’t be allowed to fight with an arbitrator again. The 25-year-old is also a right-handed defenseman, which the Leafs covet.

Many insiders looked into Avery’s claim and Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Sun believes the trade proposal makes a lot of sense. However, he does point out that - at this moment - no trade has been made or been made official by either team.

Time will tell it seems…

Guess we’ll find out in the coming days if Avery was onto something or messed with our heads and he now laughing his ass off…
