While the rumors surrounding Colorado Avalanche star center Matt Duchene appeared to have largely died down, on Thursday it was made quite clear that the plan remains to trade the talented forward.

In a recent interview with Mike Chambers of the Denver Post Colorado Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic admitted that he would continue to listen to offers, and while Duchene remains on the trading block, Sakic expects him to be in camp with the team.

“I will be listening to offers. Right now it’s quiet on all fronts,” Sakic said. “But I’ll listen to offers on how we can get better. I’ll never name names but I’ll sit there and if something makes sense for the way we want to go, with our team, we’ll really look at that.”

The asking price for Duchene as recently as this summer was reportedly astronomical and even the New York Islanders who were reportedly very interested in acquiring Duchene eventually opted to trade defenseman Travis Hamonic to the Flames instead.

As time goes on one has to imagine that the price from Sakic will eventually have to come down as now it has been made clear that Duchene himself wants out of Colorado, and who can blame him given the state of that team.

Making matters worse, Sakic just lost one of his top defensive prospects in Will Butcher and now needs help on the blue line more than ever.
