Well this is certainly an interesting line of comments from Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella.

Tortorella and the Blue Jackets are set to face off against the Boston Bruins for Game 6 of their second round series in the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night, and it will unquestionably be the biggest game of the season for the Blue Jackets thus far. The Blue Jackets currently find themselves down 3 games to 2 in the series after losing a nail bitter in Game 5, but if you think they lack confidence heading into Game 6 you should think again.

Following the Game 5 loss Torotrella came out to the post game press conference and made some extremely strong comments regarding the team's chances in Game 6. Tortorella outright guaranteed that his Blue Jackets would win Game 6 and force a Game 7 in the series in the process.

"Things happen for a reason and I truly believe that. We’ll be back here for Game 7.”

Question: "You said we'll be back here for Game 7 ..."

Torts: "We will."

Question: "What gives you the confidence that ..."

Torts: "... because we will."

Now to me this was clearly an attempt by Tortorella to inspire confidence in his own players, something that every coach should be trying to do at all times, but it seems Tortorella was taking a different tactic when speaking to the media on Monday. This time around instead of trying to get into the heads of his own players to boost their confidence it appeared as if Tortorella was trying to get in the head of one particular Bruins player, goaltender Tuukka Rask.

Tortorella made it seem like he felt his Blue Jackets have rattled Rask after 5 games in the series and appeared to point to the Bruins goaltender as a weakness that could be exploited by his team. Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty, who is by no means unbiased, suggested that it was merely Tortorella trying to go to the well one last time.

“I think we’ve put a dent in Tuukka Rask headed into Game 6 here,” said Tortorella at the end of his press conference on Monday.

I doubt Tortorella's words will have any impact on Rask at all, but it will be interesting to see if it's merely bluster from Tortorella or if the Blue Jackets really have figured out Rask heading into Game 6.
