The Chicago Blackhawks had a disappointing 2015-2016 National Hockey League season, at least as far as the recent standard they have set is concerned, and front and center of that disappointment was team captain Joanthan Toews.

Toews was the recipient of a great deal of criticism during the aforementioned season and, considering he recorded a career low for goals with 21 and just 58 total points, it's not hard to see why.

Toews recently spoke with Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston about his poor performance last season, and Toews appeared to put a lot of the blame on his poor decision making during the offseason.

“Last summer is the first time I really got the time to train really hard and I might have overdone it in the wrong way. Just worrying about power and strength all the time.

“I came into the season and just couldn’t move, just felt slow. I mean the game is so fast nowadays. It’s kind of a wake-up call in that sense.”

Toews now says he has put more focus on improving the mobility of his body heading into the 2016-2017 season, and in fact he's expected to resume skating very soon in order to pour more of his focus into developing his offensive skills prior to the season.

It sounds like Toews is committed to turning things around, and it will be very interesting to see if he can have a big bounce back this season.

“So it’s time to get back to work and get back on the horse.”
