This just in according to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Nashville Predators have re-signed captain Roman Josi to a MASSIVE eight year contract worth more than $9 million per season.

Check it out:

The team is scheduled to make an official announcement shortly. Stay tuned for details.

Pierre LeBrun, Friedman's counterpart over at Sportsnet, has more details on the signing:

Josi is second in scoring amongst NHL defensemen to start the 2019-20 season with an outstanding five goals and 13 points in his first 11 games. The 29 year old Swiss native put up 15 goals and 56 points in 82 games with the Preds last season and has an impressive 98 goals and 361 points in 574 career NHL games.

Josi been the team's captain since former captain Mike Fisher retired in 2017. He was scheduled to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, but is now officially off the market thanks to this new deal. Interestingly enough, Josi will now become the third highest paid defenseman in the NHL, which is ironic given how criminally underpaid he's been through the first decade of his NHL career. Josi was shrewdly signed to a seven year, $28 million contract worth just $4 million annually by Preds GM David Poile back in 2013. In the seven years since signing that deal, Josi has gone on to establish himself as one of the smoothest, most reliable blueliners in the game and has overshadowed legitimate superstars like Shea Weber and P.K. Subban in Nashville.

Suffice it to say, Preds fans love Josi and should feel fortunate to have him locked up for the rest of his NHL career.
