Montreal Canadiens head coach Claude Julien made it clear yesterday when he told local media "you can't give up" on forward Alex Glachenyuk. After all, the 23-year-old, who’s in his sixth NHL season, already recorded 30 goals in a season.

But, now if Habs management's plan if to keep Galchenyuk with the Canadiens, fans have the right to wonder why he was on the ice for just over nine minutes against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, a season low for him.

John Lu of TSN wondered today if Galchenyuk still have a future in Montreal. According to the Athletic's Arpon Basu, there is still a place for the young forward on the team, but Julien better start coming up with a different way to get the best out of him.

Basu uses Tyler Seguin as a great example to make sure Julien does not make the same mistake again.

"I think Claude Julien learned his lesson a bit with Tyler Seguin in Boston. He saw him go and flourish in Dallas, I think he knows you do need patience with guys like this."

Lu believes the long term future of Galchenyuk in Montreal is in jeopardy, as the forward does not seem to fit in the plans as a centre or even as a winger now.

The Habs do not have great depth up front and a trade could turn out to be costly for the team. Let's see if Julien will make the same mistake again with a player who has the potential to be a top forward again.
