Justin Williams finally made up his mind on Tuesday night, returning to the Carolina Hurricanes and signing a one-year, $700,000 deal with the possibility to earn an additional $1.3 million in bonuses.

It had been reported that other clubs were in the mix, notably the Boston Bruins who inquired on the 38-year-old forward, however, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs made a pitch to land Williams, who simply turned down the offer.

It was expected that Mister Game 7 would gather interest across the league, he who scored 23 goals and posted 53 points in 82 games last season, adding four goals and seven points in 15 playoff games.

However, many believe the Leafs should focus their search on help in between the pipes or depth on the back end now that Jake Muzzin is missing from action.

Williams was more interested in getting back to the Hurricanes, who currently sit in the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 25-16-2 record, while the Leafs keep fighting for a playoff spot.
