After making an emotional statement on having to leave Toronto to head out to Denver to play for the Colorado Avalanche, former Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri was asked about the trade late on Tuesday night.

His statement will make most Leafs fans laugh out loud. He insists that the Maple Leafs did not deal him away in return for Tyson Barrie because of his suspensions.

"I know for a fact that didn't have anything to do with it," Kadri told reporters Tuesday, according to The Canadian Press. "They know I'm a heart-and-soul guy, and I'd do anything for my teammates. That was obviously shown - sometimes not necessarily in the best way - but my head and my heart were always in the right place."

We all know how much of a mess it was for Toronto when Kadri was suspended for the final five games of the first-round series against the Bruins this spring. Kadri was banned from eight of Toronto's last 14 playoff contests, all against the Boston. The Leafs ultimately lost both series.

It seems like Kadri is making up some ridiculous reason in his head on why the Leafs chose to deal him either of another player from the roster, maybe to make the trade go down a little easier. The veteran, who spent his entire 10-year career in Toronto, admitted the Avalanche wasn't his preference to be dealt to…

"It wasn't really my first choice, but at the end of the day the Colorado Avalanche are going to be contenders for many, many years to come," he said. "That makes this a lot easier."

Good thing the Avalanche won’t face the Bruins in the first three rounds of the postseason as GM Joe Sakic said cause clearly Kadri doesn’t think it ultimately led to his trade…
