The Toronto Maple Leafs came out with a vengeance on Tuesday night against the Lightning in Tampa Bay, wanting everyone to forget that they lost to a Zamboni driver on Saturday.

It started well, especially for defenseman Jake Muzzin, who recorded a goal  in the contest. The blue liner was fired up, he who had the best answer in order to shut up fans and media criticizing the team losing to David Ayres and the Carolina Hurricanes.

But then, it went downhill.

At the start of the third period, the Leafs announced that Muzzin would not returned to the game due to a hand injury.

It was later confirmed that the blue liner blocked a shot from Tampa’s Victor Hedman right before the second intermission.

The injury comes just one day after he signed a four-year contract extension in Toronto. Muzzin was set to become a free agent in July and carries a$4 million cap hit this season, the last of a five-year deal signed with the Los Angeles Kings back in 2014.

The extension will make Muzzin the Leafs’ highest-paid defenseman next season.

On Wednesday, the Leafs announced that Muzzin will miss four weeks of action due to a broken hand...
