The rivalry between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames went up a notch this year after an incident between Zack Kassian and Matthew Tkachuk on Jan. 11 brought tensions to a season-high.

Oilers’ Kassian was suspended two games for instigating an altercation with Tkachuk after Calgary’s pest laid multiple aggressive body checks on him during the Jan. 11game, which the Flames won 4-3. This has caught the rest of the league’s attention and is why Player Safety’s George Parros will attend the game tomorrow night at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

On Tuesday, Kassian revealed to TSN how he plans on taking revenge on Tkachuk for what he did during their last encounter. And it’s all about winning.

“It’s about the two points. That’s the way we’re going to stick it to them,” Kassian told reporters after practice.
“(But) obviously if Tkachuk has the puck and I can hit him clean, I’m not going to pass on it, right?”

That’s probably what head coach Dave Tippett repeated to Kassian during his suspension and leading up to tomorrow’s contest as he held the same speech.

“It’s about winning,” said Tippett. “Think of it this way, if this was the first game of the playoffs, would you be out to try to settle scores?

“Zack understands that. Zack knows he doesn’t want to put our team in a bad position.”

However, after he was suspended, Kassian warned Tkachuk that the issue wasn’t settled and reporters expected him to stick to his first comments.

“He messed with the wrong guy,” Kassian said back on Jan. 14. “I don’t think (Tkachuk) realizes that we’re in the same division and I have a great memory.”

But on Tuesday, Kassian didn’t want the reporters to keep going with this and was adamant about his focus on winning the game.

“You guys are throwing twists and turns and building it up. I thought what happened on the ice, I handled it for the most part. I got punishment and that’s that,” he said.

I guess we will have to see what happens on Wednesday night…
