It is very rare that I will take the time to publish an article whose main focus in a single save or a single goal, but when it happens it's usually because there has been an absolutely amazing moment in a National Hockey League game. That is once again the case here.

On Sunday the Montreal Canadiens were facing off against the lowly Minnesota Wild, sorry Wild fans, and given that this was their second game in as many nights the Habs decided to give starting goaltender Carey Price the night off. It makes sense that you would start backup goaltender Keith Kinkaid against the Wild given just how poorly their team has performed since the start of the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season, but in spite of being just a backup it was unquestionably Keith Kinkaid that stole the show on Sunday night.

Not only did Kinkaid have a number of very good saves during the game, he absolutely tore the roof off of the Xcel Energy Center when he left every single person in the building standing in disbelief at what had just transpired. The Wild were down a goal roughly midway through the second period when Minnesota Wild forward Jason Zucker found himself looking at a lot of empty space in front of the net, a terrific scoring chance for the veteran forward. It likely would have been a goal too if not for the incredible heroics of Kinkaid who stacked his pads before cartwheeling to make a spectacular looking glove save to shut the door.

The save left Jason Zucker stunned although he had a huge smile on his face after he realized what had just transpired. In fact to Zucker's credit he even went over to Kinkaid after the play to acknowledge what a terrific save it was, and he was hardly the only person staring in disbelief. The benches for both teams had every player standing up after the save and Carey Price could not contain the smile on his face as he nodded in approval at what he had just witnessed.

This will probably go down as one of the best saves of the season.

Here's the best angle I could find of the play:
