Keith Tkachuk lays down the law ahead of match up between Brady and Matthew Tkachuk.

If you are one of the many fans who was very much looking forward to tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames because of the match up between brothers Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk, you may want to start tempering your expectations a little bit.

I certainly do not blame fans for anticipating the brother on brother match up given exactly who these two brothers are. Both men have shown a willingness, or perhaps it would be better described as a gleeful desire, to get under the skin of their opponents and have established themselves as true agitators in the ranks of the National Hockey League. Given that both brothers like to play rough many, including myself, were very excited to see what would happen when the two brothers came head to head on an NHL playing surface during a regular season game.

Those of you hoping for fireworks between the two tonight will likely be very disappointed as it appears that the patriarch of the Tkachuk family has already put his foot down. According to a report from TSN reporter Ian Mendes, Mendes was personally informed by Brady Tkachuk that the father of both boys, former National Hockey League great Keith Tkachuk, spoke with both boys last night and made them swear that they would not fight one another this evening. Not only did Keith make them promise but he had both boys shake on it in front of other witnesses so it sounds like any hope of fisticuffs between the two agitators will not be coming tonight.

It is not hard to see where Keith is coming from here, what kind of man would want to see his children beat the hell out of one another after all, but it may not just be tonight that his boys avoid fighting one another. It is not clear how Matthew feels about all of this but based comments from brother Brady today it does not sound like Brady Tkachuk will ever have any desire to fight his brother in the NHL.

“To be honest, I hope it’s a lifetime (agreement), because I never want to do it,” said Brady as per Mendes.
