Calgary Flames’ Matthew Tkachuk was voted to be part of the Pacific division All-Star roster and is more than thrilled about it. The young forward who grew up in St. Louis, said he was thrilled to be able to represent the Flames in his hometown.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I have a feeling the rest of my career the All-Star Game won’t be in St. Louis again. I have to take full advantage of this weekend,” Tkachuk said. “The amount of family and friends I’m going to have in town is going to be insane. The amount of family and friends … it’s going to be awesome and I’m sure it’ll be a good party every night. I’m looking forward to it.”

Things could get even better for Tkachuk - and the St. Louis crowd. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed in his latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet that Matthew’s father, Keith Tkachuk, could take part in the festivities.

“I can see Keith Tkachuk being asked if he wants to participate in a skills event with son Matthew. (Passer for the accuracy competition?) The guys on FAN 960 in Calgary are already campaigning for Drew Doughty to be added to the Pacific Division team, so he and Tkachuk can be teammates.”

Friedman also notes - as many fans did earlier this week - that it would be great if Los Angeles Kings defenseman Dre Doughty was voted to join the Pacific division All-Star roster through the Last Men ballot, seeing that he and Tkachuk have had an intense rivalry in the past seasons.

That’s why we voted for him and can’t wait to see the results!
