Ken Holland establishes impressive Red Wings franchise record.

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland may not be the most popular guy in town at this current stage of his tenure within the Red Wings organization, but there is no question that he is a man very much deserving of the fan bases respect.

Holland has had some blunders in recent years to be sure but he remains one of the most successful general managers in the National Hockey League and is also one of it's longest tenured with only Daivd Poile of the Nashville Predators having held his position for longer, and even then only by 10 days. Well on Saturday night Ken Holland provided fans with a stark reminder of just how great he has been as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings over his long career when his Red Wings defeated the Ottawa Senators.

Now beating what is arguably the worst team in the entire National Hockey League is not some kind of mystical feat in it's own right, however the night marked a very special victory in the career of Ken Holland. You see that win over the Senators was the 914th win of Ken Holland's career as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, good enough for first all time among all Red Wings general managers throughout history. Holland passed the legendary Jack Adams who had previously held the record with 913 victories to become the all time franchise leader in wins as a GM.

Unfortunately for Holland however I get the feeling that given the Red Wings' recent struggles, many of which have unquestionably been the result of overly generous contracts to players over the years from Holland, as of late that the fan base will not be particularly excited for his accomplishment, at least not in the way he likely would have hope for. The official announcement from the National Hockey League's Department of Public Relations was met with calls to fire the Red Wings general manager. Many of those calls demanded that the team bring in Detroit Red Wings legend Steve Yzerman as the next general manager of the organization and I have no doubt there will be many more who call for a similar outcome after reading our report.
