The Detroit Red Wings pleased their entire fanbase last month when they announced that legendary player Steve Yzerman was taking over as general manager of the team.

However, the former GM Ken Holland, who is said to be staying put with the team as president of hockey operations, might finally have an issue with the nomination.

According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, Holland is thinking about what is best for his career. While he was first believed to have taken himself out of the running as the new GM of the Edmonton Oilers, he could consider the possibility once again. LeBrun believes Holland will be making decisions shortly on whether he wants to remain with the Red Wings organization.

“Lots of speculation regarding Ken Holland. My understanding is that Holland is currently taking stock of what lies ahead for him. Edmonton remains a possibility. Seattle is of real intrigue. And he could stay on in Detroit for a while where he’s happy. But decisions to come ….”

When Yzerman was introduced as the new Wings GM, it felt like Holland had taken himself out of the running for work in Edmonton.

On top of that, Ryan Rishaug of TSN recently reported that the Oilers have not sought permission to speak with Holland. It could change in the coming days...

Maybe LeBrun’s report will change things up both in Detroit and Edmonton…
