This seems awfully vague.

Ken Holland makes a cryptic statement about Niklas Kronwall's future.

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland talked openly about personnel decisions on Thursday including stating outright that players like Kyle Quincey  and Brad Richards would not be re-signed by the club. That's just one more reason why his comments regarding the health and future of beloved defenseman Niklas Kronwall seem all the more cryptic.

Red Wings insider Ansar Khan of Mlive.com spoke to Holland regarding the Red Wings blue line veteran on Thursday and when asked about Kronwall's recovery Holland stated that he was informed surgery is not an option for Kronwall.

This statement raises a number of questions including who has determined surgery is not an option for Kronwall? Is it not an option due to medical concerns or because Kronwall does not want to go under the knife? If it is a medical concern is it because he's knee is so badly damaged corrective surgery would sideline him for far too long? Perhaps the most important question for fans of the club is how well is he expected to recover from a knee injury that led to a very forgettable season from Kronwall without corrective surgery?

There has been no update from Khan in this statement or from any other source, and it's unclear what this summer and what the start of next season will look like for Kronwall.
